I am a Freshman at Juniata College in Huntingdon Pennsylvania. I am originally from California, but I now live in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Most of the people that talk to ask me how I found out about Juniata College,
the campus being so terribly far from home. It has nothing to do with wanting
to get as far away from home as I possibly can, which I'm sure some of you have
guessed as the reason.
In truth, I really had no intentions of
going to Juniata College. I wanted to go to a big school
and be able to get lost in the crowds and see new people everyday. I wanted to
go to a school in California,
like UC Davis or UC San Diego. I did not get accepted to either one of those
schools, probably for the better. Out of the five schools I did get accepted
to, my parents and I narrowed it down to two, Juniata
College and Colorado
State in Fort Collins. Colorado State
was actually one of my top choices before I got accepted, but for some reason,
it did not sound as appealing when I was accepted. I love that town, everything
totally geared towards college students and outdoor activities being so near. I
also would like to be a veterinarian and Colorado State
has an excellent vet program. Maybe I just decided that it would be better for
me to go there for graduate work instead of both undergrad and graduate.
Along with this reason, I also decided
to come to Juniata because it seemed like I had a fairly good chance of making
the top choir (I didn't because I get too nervous when I sing in front of
people, but there's always next year) and I had the opportunity to be on the
track team as a thrower (I'm a horrible runner) even though I'm not very good
since I only started throwing my Senior year of High School. Also, the college
had just built a science building and, since I have a chemistry POE, that
seemed like an absolute bonus. I came for the opportunity to become close to
people, for the close campus, the everyone is invited to do anything and we
won't judge. People smile and say hi to total strangers and I love that sense
of community.
By the way, about the picture, I will
eventually find another one. I'm extremely short on them at the moment. I mean,
I hardly even brought any with me of my family.
